Clear your Inbox

The Inbox holds what you captured without a home. Give each task a day or a project in a tap, or leave it until you know.

Guide

A task lands in the Inbox when it has no project and no date. That’s on purpose: capture now, decide later.

Decide, one task at a time

Each task in the Inbox has a menu on its row, for the three decisions that empty it:

  • Today: gives it today’s date and commits it above the fold.
  • Do on: Tomorrow, This weekend or Next week.
  • File in project: moves it into one of your projects.

You can also open the task and set anything there, or drag tasks to put them in the order you’ll get to them. On iPad and Mac, select several with ⌘-click or ⇧-click and use the bar that appears to schedule or move them all at once.

Capture straight into it

The field at the top of the Inbox captures a task there, without opening the New task sheet.

It doesn’t have to be empty

An Inbox with a few things in it is fine. Tasks you don’t touch for weeks come back to you in the Stale review, where you can keep them, schedule them or let them go.
