Estimate a task

Say how long a task takes, so Today can tell you honestly what fits.

Guide

An estimate is how long you think a task will take. It’s what the capacity track adds up, so it’s what makes Today honest.

Type ~ and a length anywhere in the line: ~15m, ~90m, ~2h, ~1.5h.

In the task

Open it, and under Estimate tap a length: 5m, 15m, 30m, 45m, 1h, 2h or 3h. For anything else, Custom goes in 5-minute steps up to 24 hours.

Without one

A task with no estimate shows no length and adds nothing to the track. That’s fine for small things, but if most of your day is unestimated, the track can’t warn you when it’s full. What now? lists unestimated tasks apart, as ones that might fit.

Tip

Guess, and round up. An estimate doesn’t need to be right; it needs to be close enough that a four-hour day doesn’t quietly hold six.
